It's about time....

We finally did it! We took away Taylor's binki on Tuesday and I am surprised at how well she had done so far. We have been putting it off for awhile but decided once the new year came she was going to have to go cold turkey. I put her down for her nap and told her it was all gone and that she was a big girl now. She of course through a huge fit and ended up screaming in her room for almost 2 hours. She did fall asleep by the door with her faced smashed under it, but it only lasted about 20 minutes. I finally had to cut it up completely and then show her that it was broken. It broke my heart to see her look at it and wonder what had happened. Since then it has been a little harder putting her down for naps and she doesn't sleep nearly as long, but she has adjusted well. Whenever we go to put her to bed, she reminds us that her binki is broken and then comes up with ten thousand excuses of why she can't go to bed. Last night, she told me it was too dark and that she needed medicine! It's amazing how smart kids can be at such a young age. I'm just glad I finally got up the courage to get rid of it. Hopefully as time goes, she will learn to go back to sleep on her own when she wakes up before she is ready. Next up, Potty Training~Anyone have any ideas?!

Good for Taylor! I am so nervous for the day that I have to break Hayley of her binki. She doesn't use it very much, only when she wants to sleep. That's the problem though - it's so much of a comfort for sleeping.

I'll be asking you for advice when I come to this point! Good luck with it all!

Marissa..good luck with the potty training. My oldest son turns 3 in a few weeks and has just started showing interest in being a "big boy". On the other hand my daughter was completely trained by 2 1/2 so in my oppinion it's good to introduce it to them and show them the basics and just go with her reaction to it. Each child is different and will show readiness in their own time. We have been trying to get Drake intersted for a long time now and we haven't been able to find a currency for him, something to modivate him with it. I think (hope) the "big boy" thing sticks long enough for us to get him through it. Remember...she will learn (eventually) be patient, she won't be 30 and still wearing diapers! Good luck!
