Vegas Trip

Last weekend we decided to take a quick getaway trip to Las Vegas. With both the kids birthdays coming up, I knew I wanted to hit a Toys R Us and Curtis happened to have some free rooms at the Monte Carlo. We invited our friends, the Felix's, with us and left after work on Friday. It's crazy to me, that we have lived close to Vegas most of our marriage and never taken the time to go just for fun. We got there at dark and hit the strip to catch some of the free attractions. We definitely stuck out like a sore thumb with one double stroller and 2 umbrella strollers...people definitely got a kick out of us!! We stopped first at the Bellagio for the fountain show. I hadn't seen it since I was a little girl and loved it as much as I did back then. We then fought our way through the masses to see the volcano at the Mirage. It was definitely a workout walking the whole strip, but well worth it for the experience. Boston and Jace decided to call it a day before we got back to the hotel! I should have pulled Boston's binki out since next to Jace he looks like a four year old!! Dont judge...hes not even 2 yet and we have limited it to bed and naptime!

The next morning we got an early start and headed to M&M World. I managed to get a picture with the kids by Red, although Boston was definitely a little hesitant! We watched the m&m movie and then attempted to see the lion habitat at the MGM Grand, but apparently the lions weren't up for visitors. We thought about riding the roller coaster at New York New York, but decided we could spend the $14 per person elsewhere!
After grabbing lunch at In&Out we said goodbye to our friends since they had to get back to Saint George. Curtis decided to head out to the Bass Pro Shop and boy are we glad he did! Not only did the kids love seeing all the animals there, but we also go lucky to see an Aquarium full of colorful fish inside the Silverton Casino which is connected to Bass Pro. We watched them feed the fish and got a special treat, especially for Taylor, a mermaid! The kids were in awe as she swam up to the glass and waved and blew kisses at them. Taylor was beeming, and Boston was quite the flirt! She even made a kissy face and Boston leaned in for it:) I was impressed at how she took time with each child there and focused on them individually. It was really cool and afterwards Taylor told us she wanted to be a mermaid so she could wave at all the kids and blow kisses!

I love Taylor's face in the reflection as she is making a heart with her hands...totally priceless! Even better is that Boston was trying to imitate her too!Boston thought it was cool to see the lion's up close and Taylor loved all the sharks she saw swimming in the aquarium. We finished off our trip with Toys R Us and made sure the kids got in their fair share of play! We accomplished getting Boston his presents...basically anything truck or car oriented or balls, what can I say, hes easy to please!! Taylor is a little more difficult for me. She wants everything and really isn't in to one specific thing, she'll dress up like a princess or dig in the dirt! We had a great weekend and were glad we got to spend it with some awesome friends!

Sounds Wonderful!!! Enjoy this time before your kids are in school when you can go on quick trips whenever you want! And don't worry too much about preschool. The most important aspect of preschool is play when kids learn how to interact with one another and a teacher. And for kids, play is learning!!! Most of the "academic" stuff my kids learned before Kindergarten I taught them. Dollar stores have great flashcards and workbooks. I also used those paint sample strips from Home Depot to teach colors and color families and buttons to teach size, shape and sorting. I found great puzzles and such also at TJMAXX and of course the computer is an endless resource. Ultimately, you are their greatest source of learning, don't worry about the rest!! Taylor is bright and will thrive in Kindergarten. Enjoy your time with her at home, it goes by way too quickly and many days I wish I was the one educating my boys. You are a great Mom and she is learning from you and the experiences you and Curt provide her every day. Excited to see you guys!!!

Marissa,
When did they build an M&M world? My kids would love that!!! I guess it has been a long time since I was in Vegas too. I am glad you guys were able to make the quick trip and to see sooo much fun stuff. The aquarium sounds great too. I am looking forward to seeing how close Boston and Trenton are in size. He looks so big and grown up already. I so agree with Erinn's comment. I am glad to be my kid's teacher while they are young. The rest is just a fun bonus for the kids and a little rest time for you! Love ya tons and I cannot wait to see you soon.
Love, Tara
