Our Big News.....Redo!

We were told going into our decision to build a home that we should expect the unexpected. Everyone that had done it before us has said that things will always go wrong and deadlines will more often than not, be missed. Well, I didn't realize that this would actually happen before we even broke ground! We got a message about a week ago from the Sales agent that said the architect was having trouble fitting the house we wanted on the lot we picked....are you kidding? We had been in just days before signing our contract, picking out our colors and upgrades, and making it official. In an attempt to make a long story short, the builders were in such a hurry to release prices and lots that they failed to make sure all homes offered would fit on each lot. I was sick....literally, I felt like I'd been punched in the stomach. I'm a worrier. I immediately felt like it was a sign of some sort making it seem as though we shouldn't be doing this, but I was sick because I really wanted it. Curtis immediately put me in my place and basically told me to chill out! We started talking about what our options were and how they were going to make up for the mistake. In the end, the builder was already offering the homes at great prices and wasn't willing to do anything more than give us the sales guy's commission on the home....$1000. It all worked out in the end....and follow closely as I tell you how. We had lot 5, but the home wouldnt fit, so if we wanted that lot we had to build a 2 story home and pay more, lots more money. We considered it and then common sense kicked in and we decided that wasn't an option, but all the other lots in phase 1 were taken except for one that faced east/west having the sun hitting our kitchen and main living area at the hottest time of the day...not good. Our sales guy the had an epiphany! The owners of lot 3, a corner lot, originally wanted to buy the model, but were told it wasn't going to be sold. Since they'd picked almost everything the model had, they were offered the model and took it!! So, we are now the proud owners of lot 3!!! Granted, it is an east/west facing home, the sun with hit only a couple bedrooms rather than our main living space..AND our good friends the Felix's kindly built a 2 story which should aide in blocking the sun in the early evening:) The home does fit, its footing has already been dug! We went in again today and re-did our contract and added a few upgrades we hadn't planned on before. The permit was submitted last week which means building could commence as early as this weekend or Monday! But don't worry, I'll tack on an extra week since we've started out with such amazing luck!!!
In other news, we have a potential renter for our home now. It's almost completely finalized which means we will only have a couple weeks, at most, left here. It's time like these when I'm grateful for the profession my husband has. Most likely, we will move into the hotel until our home is completed. I've lived in one for a couple weeks when we moved to New Mexico, and its not the most enjoyable experience, but if it means removing the burden of paying two house payments, then I'm more than willing to oblige:) Stay tuned for many more updates, all of which I hope to be positive, smooth sailing ones.....I won't keep my fingers crossed!
