A couple weeks ago, Curtis and I made a very last minute decision to go on vacation. We have been talking about it for months and I think we both finally got to the point we just needed to get away. So we packed up the car, loaded the kids and headed off to Grandma's house! We didn't even tell them we were coming. We planned on just showing up on their doorstep, but I couldn't wait that long and caved in and called when we were just leaving Vegas. My mom thought I was kidding, but we assured her we were on our way! It was a great low key vacation that allowed us to relax and recouperate. The kids loved being there and always have a blast playing in the backyard and in the sandbox.
Saturday we headed up to Seqouia National Forest and spent the day admist beautiful, and unbelievably large trees. I had been once before, but it still is amazing at the size of some of those trees. Curtis was like a kid at Disneyland for the first time and was blown away by what we saw! The kids had a great time just being outside...I think they were too young to appreciate the beauty around them, but nonetheless they loved it! We got up close and personal with a deer that Boston kept calling doggy, and had a great picnic lunch in the beautiful weather.
It was hard to capture the overwhelming size of the trees in pictures, but I did the best I could.
The kids loved running on the trails, collecting sticks as they went and got to walk through the truck of a tree that had fallen over. Taylor was so excited about the deer that she would have just assume follow it around all day! It had obviously adapted well to having lots of people around since it was literally only feet away.
Curtis attempted to climb a few trees, but as you'll notice from the picture, he didn't get very far! (He's the little red guy at the base of the tree!) It was a good thing we were there because as we were walking a long a trail a huge branch fell right in front of us...luckily I was there to catch it so no one got hurt.....those things can be a tad heavy.
We had a wonderful day enjoying some of the beauty California has to offer and the kids were definitely tuckered by the end of it! Thanks to Grandma and Grandpa for coming and enjoying the day with us! Stay tuned for more pictures from the fun we had while we were away.....
